Auto Insurance 101
Personal Injury Protection (PIP)
Cause you never know!
So we've talked about Liability Insurance and Uninsured Motorist Coverage. Now we can move on to the next coverage in our Auto Insurance 101 series. It's called Personal Injury Protection coverage. This coverage is pretty neat! It pays for medical expenses that you've incurred for an Automobile related accident weather you're "At Fault" or not. It can also pay for lost wages from a job even if you're a stay at home parent! That's pretty neat right?
Example of How It Works:
"Okay...... Pretend you're a Farmer! You've just purchased some hay and you're on your way to go feed the cows(MOOOW!). It's a beautiful evening and you're just soaking up the sun cruising in your pick-up truck. You get to the cows, hop in the back of your pick-up and start unloading the hay. As you do so, the sun glare gets right in your eyes and you slip off your pick-up truck onto the floor! (YIKES!) Your back is now hurting! So you decide to go the hospital. As you're driving there you realize that you don't have any Health Insurance(Ugh!) so now you're nervous on how much this visit is going to cost! BUT WAIT! At that very moment you also realize that you have Personal Injury Protection (PIP)! You choose this coverage when you purchased your basic Liability Insurance policy! So you call your Auto Insurance Agent just to double check and they reassure you that you can file a claim to be reimbursed for the charges at the ER(Hurrah!)."
Personal Injury Protection (PIP) can be used in many types of Automobile related accidents. If there was an Automobile involved, there's a good chance you can use this type of coverage!
IMPORTANT Note: Not every State offers this type of coverage. So double check your State guidelines or check with your local Insurance Agent just to be on the safe side. If this coverage isn't offer. There's a good chance they have an option that's close to it!
Auto Insurance can sometimes be confusing! So double check your Insurance Policy and if you have any questions or comments please let me know! Until next week! Be Alert, Be Safe and Be a Happy Driver! :)
